IIT Kanpur Workshop Report

The following are the statistics obtained from the audience after the workshop in IIT Kanpur from 6 Febraury to 7 Febraury , 2010:

  1. Range of topics covered:
    • 28.12% of the people felt that the range of topics covered were very relevant.
    • 65.62% of the people felt that the range of topics covered were relevant.
    • 6.26 of the people felt that the range of topics covered were somewhat relevant.
  2. Depth of coverage
    • 3.12% of the people felt that the depth of coverage was too detailed.
    • 90.63 of the people felt that the depth of coverage was detailed enough.
    • 6.25 of the people felt that the depth of coverage was not detailed enough.
  3. Effectiveness of methodology
    • 18.75% of the people felt that the teaching methodology was extremely effective.
    • 78.13 the people felt that the teaching methodology was effective.
    • 3.12% the people felt that the teaching methodology was effective.
  4. Pace of coverage
    • 3.12% of the people felt that the pace of coverage was too fast.
    • 50.0% of the people felt that the the pace of coverage was fast.
    • 43.75% of the people felt that the pace of coverage was just right.
    • 3.13% of the people felt that the pace of coverage was slow.
  5. Applicability
    • 35.29% of the people felt that they can apply what they have learnt immediately.
    • 50.0% of the people felt that they can apply what they have learnt somewhat immediately.
    • 14.71% of the people felt that they cannot apply what they have learnt immediately.
  6. Choice of Problems:
    • 17.64% of the people felt that the problems were very interesting.
    • 20.58% of the people felt that the the problems were interesting.
    • 11.78% of the people felt that the problems were somewhat interesting.
  7. Choice of Exercises:
    • 29.41% of the people felt that the exercises were very instructive.
    • 58.82% of the people felt that the exercises were instructive.
    • 11.77% of the people felt that the exercises were somewhat instructive.

General Comments
1.Workshop is very good and useful. But it is better if you provide all the slides.
2.Great Workshop ! Wonder if I'd have become master if it was a week . Would you include gui development in python.
3.Interested in coming to next workshop.

5.Duration of class is Ok .But please give breaks betweek classes so that we can get refreshed and can grasp more knowledge.
6.Mayavi is an excellent tool and team is perfect for workshops.

15.Slot of four hours in one day is too long .I think two has slot is more than enough or either in between a break of one hour .

17. I have started loving Python , most precisely programming , which I was scared of till now.
18.Personally would have liked some insight into use of Python in open source development . Otherwise , I feel workshops of these kind are better suited for students of local colleges rather than IITs simply because the students there are not properly taught .
